Wash & Go Love!

I love my hair lately! I've been doing a ton of wash and gos because of time.
I'm in love with the Extreme Wetline gel. I've always heard raves about it, but I finally tried it and it's even better than the EcoStyler gels as far as wash and gos go!

I don't regret buying this stuff at all. I am totally loving it. But of course, I use an oil on my hair prior to using it. The first time I tried it, I didn't put on oil my HAIR; I put it on my SCALP only. I regretted that because my hair was super crunchy. Leave ins didn't work well with this gel. Made those annoying white flakes. LOL



 


 After rocking wash and gos for about a month now, I started back doing my twists. I actually missed doing twists and twist outs, which was shocking because I was getting bored of them before.
But the cooler weather approaches, so I'll be doing more protective styles, anyway. Yay! lol

Got Gorilla Snot? (REVIEW)

Hola, curly mamas! This is my mini product haul. I had ten bucks to spend and I was out of conditioner AND leave in, so I found new products to try. By the way, that leave in is full of proteins, so my hair will probably act up with it, but I wanted to try it anyway. 

I finally found that Gorilla Snot that everyone in the Facebook 'Beads, Braids, & Beyond' hair group always raves about! Walmart actually had it this time. This is a Mexican product, so most of the text is in Spanish. I have already tried it all of these products, but this Gorilla Snot is the main one I have been aching to try.

Quite frankly, I was a little intimidated to try something with this name. I mean, wouldn't you? What it it really was gorilla's snot? LOL! #IJS

 

Gorilla Snot Review

Consistency: VERY gooey/gluey substance. Extremely sticky!
Look: Yellow and slimy
Smell:  very light chemically smell, not strong
Ingredients: Water, PVP (used for crunchy hold) Alcohol, PEG-150, Sorbitol (binds water), Hydroxyethylcellulose, Triethanolamine, Carbomer, Cyamopsis Tetragonoloba Gum (Guar), Fragrance, Methylchloroisothiazolinone, Methylisothiazolinone, Yellow 10 (CI 47005), Yellow 6 (CI 15985), Green 8 (CI 59040)
Not at all the best ingredients, especially the alcohol, and I haven't used any alcohol products in ages, and the artificial colors are a no-no
Effectiveness: Highly effective for slicking down hair; however, it has the tendency to leave white flakes after a day (in my hair, that is). Didn't do so in Syriah's hair for some reason when I left her hair twisted with this stuff
Overall grade: B+
Why: This gel is AWESOME for slicking down every little piece of hair that sticks up, BUT the hold is way too crunchy for my taste. I would honestly never try this gel for a wash and go because my hair would be rock hard and would probably barely even move after drying.  Also, I'm not fond of the color additives. They're totally unnecessary. But for edges, this product is BEAST! Yes, I would use it again, but sparingly.

Overnight Oil Treatment

Ello again, curly mamas! I am doing an overnight oil treatment tonight because my hair is parched! My mini braids are out! I dampened and slicked coconut oil on my hair as I was taking them out. It took about an hour. Good thing I had a movie to watch while doing so. ;)
My hair is dry because it's been two weeks of nothing but gel being used on the braids. I mean, I spritzed my hair with water a couple of days and used the infamous castor oil on my scalp a few times, but now that my hair is all out again, it's... pretty dry. The ends especially are drier than ever.
My hair is actually softer than I expected and not as dry as I'd expected. I doctored it up well before doing the braids. I guess that's why? (shrugs)
So I am doing an overnight oil treatment with coconut oil and EVOO. If you don't know what EVOO is, you are missing out! It's extra virgin olive oil and it's the BOMB for moisture. I mixed both oils and threw a ton of it into my damp hair after the braids were all out. Then I tied a plastic bag over my hair after putting sections into a few fat twists. I'm hoping for super soft, moisturized hair in the morning when I wash the oils out.
I'm still going to condition after I wash, especially because I plan to use my sulfate shampoo to get all the gel out. I've stuck to doing my 'clarifying wash' once a month so far and it's working well for me.
Well, that's my plan for tomorrow. Hopefully, I will get a chance to doctor my hair up. I can't keep protective styles in my hair too long because then I get bored and start to miss playing in my hair. I don't know why I'm like that; guess I just love hair. LOL!

Mini Braids On Doll Hair?

Hiyas! This is a quick post about an old doll... of mine, actually. LOL! Pic is self-explanatory.

These braids are on their second week and still not that frizzy. I used EcoStyler gel and that's it. I don't normally use gel like that on anyone's hair, but the way these braids are holding up for me AND her is phenomenal. Whatever works, rock it! #divachic

Twisting With Gel

Hiya, guys! I'm just making a quick post about gel. I've had my EcoStyler Olive Oil gel for about a year (huge container) and I just ran out of it. NUUUU! (hyperventilates) MUST GET MORE!
I'm surprised that it lasted that long. But I'm not that avid of a gel user. I usually only use it to smooth edges down and nothing else... on rare occasions. I don't wear ponytails or buns often.
Lately, I've started using more gel for my two strand twists. I use a cream on a section first, make sure my hair is de-tangled, and smooth in some gel throughout the entire section before I twist. It's been working awesome. My twists tend to unravel because I have 3B-3C hair, so I need something to where they won't come undone every minute. The EcoStyler is doing it! Sorry that I don't have pictures at the moment. Life's...well, busy.

Tip of the Day: If your twists come apart a lot, try using gel before you twist. Use only a fingertip amount, depending on how small your twists are. But make sure your twists are moisturized first. You'll reduce the 'crispy' feeling that you usually get with gel, and you hair won't feel hard when it dries. Trust me; it works!
And when you're done wearing the twists, you can take them down for a wicked twist-out. ;-)

New Hairstyle Update and...Follower Glitch? O_o

Hey, everyone. Does anyone else have a blog that you direct other people too and for some reason, they cannot follow you? The follow button that's supposed to be at the top of he blog page is missing? I've actually seen that on other people's blogs, and I'm trying to figure out why that happens. I've been missing out on followers because they end up telling me that they cannot find the follow button at the top of the blog page. This is not good news because I have a lot of page views on this blog already but the people who really want to follow me cannot.
I thought it was a browser problem, so sometimes I tell people to try another browser, but apparently, that doesn't work, either. I use Google Chrome and whenever I'm not signed in, I see my follow bar at the top just fine. I'm not understanding why others can't see it, no matter what browser they're using. I MUST figure this out! O___O Who knows how many followers I've been missing out on? Either that or I will have to find another method of placing a follow button on my blog.
Has anyone else experienced this problem? If so, please let me know and if you have a solution. Will be greatly appreciated!

Now for some hair talk lol! Last week, I did finger curls in Sy's hair. I used to do these a lot when she was a  little baby, because it was quick, cute, and easy. Her hair was super thin back then. Since then, she's gained some thickness. Not too thick, and not too thin, either. The old finger curls I did back then never lasted more than a day because I wasn't using the right products, and I didn't exactly cover her hair, either. I didn't have anything to cover her tiny head. For these, I washed her hair with the Shea Moisture Coconut shampoo and detangled immediately afterwards with a wide toothed comb and EVOO.
Then I parted her hair and applied my shea butter concoction (unrefined shea butter, EVOO, grapeseed oil, jojoba oil, lavender oil) to each 'twist' and gently curled with my finger. I did it as close to Sy's scalp as possible because finger curls tend to unravel easily with her hair type, and I found that as I finished them, they still began to come out in the middle. Rawr. Oh well. I tried again a little tighter and left it alone.
I was surprised that they lasted three days, with a quick touch up in between because her hair cap had actually come off her head at night and the curls were a matted mess in the morning. We happened to have to go somewhere that day, too, so messy hair was not going to fly at all. So I fixed it up quickly. The fourth day, her hair was through. The finger curls were way too matted from her playing around and being nothing more than an active three year old, so I had to take them out completely.
I was happy that for the first time, finger curls had lasted longer than a day. Shea butter has awesome hold. I'd rather use that than gel any day, even though certain hairstyles just call for gel. But I barely use gel at all in my daughter's hair. No need for it, and we don't even go anywhere important to where she has to look that 'spiffy'. These days, our 'out' days consist of my prenatal visits, an updated doctor's visit for one of the kids, the grocery store, or a trip to Granny's house to hang out. I'm experimenting on different styles right now, new protective styles, because when this baby comes, I won't have much time to put lots of emphasis on Syriah's hair until her baby sister is a bit older and has somewhat of a schedule going. I'm aware of this, and don't want to be an overly burdened mommy, as hair is of the least importance when there's a new baby around. lol
So, I'm practicing more twisting/braiding styles that last for some time right now, so when I go into labor, I don't have to worry about omg, I haven't fixed her hair in three days and it's gonna look worse when I get out of the hospital and have to tackle it...I won't have time for that in a few weeks! I will have more pics up soon, of another 'box twist' style I did on her that she's still rocking now. Until then, peace out, curly mamas! <3
