Five Year Old With Tailbone Length Hair & First Straightening!

Hey, curly mamas! Today I am bringing you a video on Symari's first hair straightening. This is her absolute first time getting this done! If you recall, I already blow dried her hair for the first time earlier this year and it was a success.

For flat ironing, I wanted to wait as long as possible before doing so, because when Syriah was about 2.5 or 3, I'd flat ironed her hair to see how long it was and at the time, I didn't know what I was doing as far as natural hair care yet. Her hair was already damaged prior to this... this was the VERY beginning of the natural hair movement... about 2009-2010ish. I didn't want to do the same to my second daughter, EVEN though when she was born, I'd already been through 2 kids and knew way more about natural hair care than I did with Syriah. There was no reason to flat iron a 3 year old's hair, so I waited till she was 5.
So I hope that you guys enjoyed the video! Comment below or on the video if you have any questions or concerns. Thanks for reading!

Natural Hair Goals for the New Year! 2015

Hiya, curly mamas! I want to do a post today about my hair goals for the upcoming year, and because I am a homeschooling SAHM and don't have a lot of free time at the moment, I will be as straightforward as possible. ;-)

My goals for this year are to:

1. Experiment with heat more. Since I am seasoned in my 'naturalness', I am no longer afraid of putting heat on my hair. Just not a lot, of course. Remember, everything in moderation... always.

2. Try a new color! Right now, the ends of my hair and my bangs are reddish, but I originally wanted a much lighter color than that. So, you might see me with a golden brown/blondish color soon. ;)

3. Reach full waist length! My hair right now is actually almost at waist length, the middle of my hair is. I've had a few setbacks, but my hair is still growing profusely. It won't be FULL waist length just yet unless I have some super growth next year or something, but I have about 6 inches left to grow before I can comfortably pull a section of my hair to my waist. :O

4. Go back to the basics and enjoy my hair! This year, I got a little caught up in some 'hair hype', like boycotting certain ingredients, but I'm at the point where if it works for me, I'm going to use it regardless of whether or not it has the 'curly girl' staple ingredients. Sue me, but I'm tired of being a little strict about my hair regimen. It's not going to kill me to use something with mineral oil in it.  >_>

My last relaxer was April 2009. I transitioned for two years, then chopped off my relaxed hair in March 2011. In March 2015 (also my birthday, yay!), I will have been fully natural for FOUR years! It's time to break out of the 'natural Nazi' box and enjoy my hair. After all, it is just hair. If it gets very damaged, I can always chop it off and grow it right back... and with all the knowledge that I've gained over the years, that shouldn't be too hard at all. ;-)

Baby is Finally Here!

Hooray! My daughter is finally here! Born at 40 weeks... a new record for me. Symari was 7lbs, 7oz, 20 inches long, my biggest and fattest baby of the three. Below are pics of my husband and I with sheer relief and happiness. LOL!

I'm so glad that I escaped the C-section. That eggplant parmesan recipe must have worked because I wasn't dilating at first, and then three days after continuously eating that stuff, I went to the hospital and was dilated at five centimeters. Baby was born about four hours later.
I was so in pain that I almost ended up with the epidural, even though I wanted another all natural birth like I'd had with my first daughter, but I asked for it too late, when she was about to come. So much more painful than the first time, probably because this baby was a whole two pounds heavier. I squeezed the hell out of my husband's hand! But she slipped out in three hard pushes and it was finally over. She's a cutie!
Syriah and Jam went googly eyed when we bought Symari home. They love their new sister... so far. Wonder when the jealousy will hit. For now though, I'm going to enjoy the view. Hehe.
Well, as you may have guessed, my hands are pretty full now, more than before. Hubby's still home, helping me recover. I'm glad that I can walk... slowly, but I'm moving. Body is still sore. The afterbirth pains of my uterus are horrible, and my breast milk just came in, so I still have pain from every angle. Bleh. Just have to wait all that out.
On a 'hair note', my new daughter's head is completely full of hair, which is no surprise because so were my other two. Her's is probably just a bit longer because she stayed inside the womb two weeks longer than they did. I love soft baby hair! I'm excited about having all natural products to use in her hair as she gets older, and I won't go through the damaged process that I went through with Syriah because I just know more about taking care of kid's hair. So I'm happy. =)
There's my huge update. Gotta go now... toddlers are down for nap and Symari is asleep. It's time for me to eat something and keep that up so I can breastfeed well. Peace out till later, curly mamas! <3
