Fancy Flat Twists!

Heya, guys!
I am sorry that I didn't find time to do a tutorial on this hairstyle, but here it is.

I whipped this up on Symari's hair 3 days ago before we all made a trip to Chuck E Cheeses for their cousin's birthday party, It was pretty simple.
I didn't use any products because I had already moisturized her hair two days ago and the braids were still going, but during her bath, I wet her hair slightly, combed it out a bit, and did this style. The flat twists in the front are twisted forward instead of back, but the back ones go downward. That big metal barette really topped off the whole style and she got a lot of stares. ;)

Hope you guys enjoyed this style and blog post! Stay curly!

Sorry, Curlies!

October 24, 2015

Hey, guys! I've been neglecting this blog and I am sorry. I don't have much new hair info at the moment to post here. Life is changing and I don't have the time that I used to have.
However, I am still doing YouTube videos about natural hair care and I post quite often on my business Instagram account: +Curls of Innocence.

I have a part time job now. Woo hoo! So things are a little more busy. I'm no longer a stay at home mom. But it's good. It's making me strive for more. I haven't had  the funds to try new hair products or anything, which is why I have been focusing more on vlogging lately instead.
But stay tuned; I'm not quitting. I'm not going anywhere! ;)

GREEN Natural Hair! SPLAT Color REVIEW

September 10, 2015
Hiya, curly mamas!
For those inquiring about my green hair. it was a complete 'happy accident'. I originally wanted to try blue, so I bought this Splat semi-permanent hair dye from Walgreens in the middle of looking for my regular blonde color. I didn't find my shade and brand, so I saw this and grabbed it. I had been wanting to try a new color for a while, anyway. So I said, why not?

Color name: Aqua Rush
Price: between 10 & 14 bucks

This video is when I picked up the dye. Remember when I said that I had a surprise for you guys? Hehe. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=6ZjCq_3rlLU

This video is the whole process of what I did when I dyed it! :)

So, I had kind of already expected my hair to turn 'greenish'. It turned green because the blonde color in my hair was more of a golden color instead of blonde. It wasn't platinum blonde or anything. I had a feeling that it would turn out something other than the blue on the box, so I was already expecting that. But I didn't expect to love it as much as I did! It's a pretty green, though, grass green. I didn't mind as long as it wasn't 'dung green'. LOL!

If I had a blow dryer, I would have dyed my hair with the dye that was provided in the Splat box (which I was unaware of until after I'd opened it), dried my hair, then did the color right afterwards. But I didn't have the time that day to wait a whole day for my hair to dry after bleaching over my golden hair. I had to do the whole process when my hubby was home to help me and/or keep the kids completely out of my way while doing this. But oh well. It worked out anyway. Maybe I will do something different next time.
So, I loooooove my current look! I've gotten a lot of positive feedback about it and I'm pleased. I don't know if I will re- dye it this color when it fades (as it's already starting to do), but I will enjoy it while it lasts. It's about time I start experimenting with some 'off' colors. It's a way of self-expression that I wish I had a chance to do as a teenager. But oh well, it's all good. Being grown means that you can  pretty much express yourself however you like. Also, I am starting to make my own money now to try new things, so woo hoo! :-D #happymommy

This color is great. Like I mentioned, it's starting to fade. But that's to be expected. It isn't permanent and it has been over 3 weeks now.

Where You At!? VEDA, Excessive VLOGGING

Heeeeey again, curly mamas! It's been a minute once again, so sorry! Been busy doing a million other things in life besides blogging. I will get back on it, I promise!
I have been doing a TON of videos lately, and I'm doing VEDA this month also. Another reason for my absence. It's so hard to keep up with social media and blog at the same time... while being a mommy.

Excessive vlogging is in progress. Will be back soon!

Curly Clan Wash Day Diary: Part 2? Shunsleek Review

Hey, curlies! This post isn't going to be long, just a quick diary entry following the last post.
Well, of course, it's been weeks since then, but oh well. I've been super busy lately, and blogging has not been on my priority list!
Anyway, I tried the Shunsleek hair care products. I got these from the World Natural Hair Show in April. I've been using them on the kids hair since then, and I finally did a full review on it.
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=8SIsoViK5Sw

Yeah, they weren't all that. The spritzes barely did anything for our hair. The coconut detangler worked well, though.

I was so disappointed because this company did not do well with their presentation. Apparently, they need a graphic designer, because the way they designed the bottles, as you can see in the video, is not up to par. Also, there is NO excuse for the amount of misspellings on that one container!
Anyway, enough criticisms. There's my review on Symari's wash day, I hope you enjoy! Tell me what you think.

My STRAIGHT Hair & Trim? June 2015

Hiya, curly mamas!
So, if you follow me on Instagram and Twitter, you already know that I straightened my hair yesterday! I just wanted a change, and ever since I went half blonde in January, I had been dying to see what my blondish hair looked like straight. So I finally went for it, even after a two and a half day mini vacation to NC by PLANE with my mom, sister and baby niece, and all 4 of my kids for my great grandmother's 82nd birthday! O_O
Yeah, talk about tiring. All those babies and bags, fighting through TSA.
Anyway, I rested for two days after that and washed my uber dry hair, deep conditioned, and went for the flat iron the next day when it had dried. I used only my Tresemme heat protectant, the same one I always use and have yet to run out of considering that I barely use heat on my hair.

If you want to see the big reveal, check my Instagram page or wait for the video! I have freaking tons of footage to edit, between the NC vlog clips and the straightening video with trimming and tips, etc. But I will get on it soon! Balancing time being a mommy and video editing can be extremely difficult. That's also why I took a week off from homeschooling this week. It's too much to deal with...

So stay tuned to YouTube for more videos and stuffs. Peace out!

Curly Clan Wash Day Diary: Part 1

Today,  I washed someone's hair! One of the kids, of course. Can you guess who it was? Can you?
Okay, that was a little lame. LOL! It was Jamian's little curls. His hair was very dirty. In the last video I did of him, I didn't exactly get around to washing his hair yet.

So this was the last video before the one I filmed this afternoon. I wanted to use one of the million sample hair products that I had gotten from the hair show, so I fished around for a shampoo packet. I couldn't find one! I only found the 10 in 1 Shea Moisture renewal shampoo and deep conditioner packet that I was reserving to use on myself. I have tried the deep co before, and I loved it. But the sample packet was way too little to ever use on my hair, even though the shampoo was extremely sudsy on Jam's hair. So I ended up using that shampoo and the deep co on him. It was so soft and wonderful!
Afterwards, I used the Taliah Waajid Easy Herbal Comb Out in his hair as a wash and go style. I have used this stuff in the past, and it's absolutely wonderful for detangling! However, his hair didn't even need much detangling considering that I finger detangled his hair in the shower with the shampoo and the deep co, because it had sooooo much wonderful slip to it. This Shea Moisture line is the bomb, yo! I need to buy some more of this stuff whenever possible. Whenever Walgreens has another 50% of sale. Hehe.
I'll be editing the video of this wash day very soon, so stay tuned for part 2 and more pics and vids! ;)
Peace out, curly mamas!

Oh! And take a peek at my latest homeschooling video if you're interested.

Natural Hair Show HAUL! Spring 2015

New video on what I got at the World Natural Hair Show! Check it out.
I supported a new natural hair care line as well. Yay! I am not sure how well the spray leave ins will work on our hair, but we shall see. I had a great time there and hopefully, I'll be attending the fall show in October and be more prepared 'business wise' this time.
Because I ran out of business cards! Waaaaaahahahaha...
I really thought that I had more cards stashed on me, but nope. Also, I was in the process of getting new business cards, but long story, I didn't get around to ordering in time for the show. But oh, well. It's all good. I am working hard throughout the summer to bring more people to my blogs and videos.
Curls of Innocence has been around for quite some time now. It's about time we blossomed! Like and share, please! Oh, and comment. You guys don't comment enough.. on my blogs or vlogs. lol #deadserioustho

Here are some pics of Jam's recent haircut and protective style. His hair has gotten mad long up top! If I'd never cut his hair, this top area would essentially be as long as his rat tail, which reaches his butt right now.

That is all for today. Peace out till later!

Dandruff? What Dandruff?

Hey, curly mamas! Do you guys suffer from dandruff? Your kids have it, too? It's not that hard to get rid of it... for good.
My kids and I haven't had dandruff issues in years. We all used to, probably back in about 2012... I believe that was the last time I had issues with it. My youngest child, who is 11 months, has NEVER had dandruff, or even cradle cap thus far. Even my hubby used to have excessive dandruff and doesn't have it any longer!

So, here is what I do to keep dandruff away.. for good,

1. DRINK WATER! I cannot stress that enough. If your body is not hydrated properly, it will manifest itself in your scalp and you'll see those annoying, itchy white flakes that won't go away.

2. WASH weekly! A CLEAN scalp is a happy, non itchy scalp. Bi-weekly may work depending on how your hair is already trained, but if you have lots of dandruff, it is recommended that you wash it weekly.

3. DITCH the sulfate shampoos! Sulfates make your scalp even dryer, which contributes to MORE flakes. No bueno. Want to cleanse completely? Use a mud/clay wash or ACV (apple cider vinegar).

4. OIL your scalp! After you wash and condition your hair, oil your scalp with a natural based oil (EVOO, castor oil, grapeseed oil, avocado oil, etc) before using a leave in. If you don't seal that moisture in, it'll quickly be zapped away by the elements.

5. DEEP CONDITION weekly! Now, I don't have time to do this for all my kids, but I definitely do it to myself. But the kids actually don't need deep conditioning to keep dandruff away, and that's because I have their hair TRAINED. We all guzzle water as our number one drink, and when I moisturize their hair, I use water, then oil, then cream and/or shea butter, otherwise known as the LOC method.
Occasionally, I'll do the opposite... the LCO method. Both ways work well for us!

6. PROTECTIVE STYLING works wonders! Now, I'm not talking about weave, Ya'll know I don't do weave... no shade to those who do; it's just not me, I am talking about doing styles that last for a week. For me, because I'm always in the house, my hair is in twists or braids 90% of the time. If it's not in twists, it's up in a high bun to stretch it and also keep the ends moisturized. I only wear it out when it's moist enough or I'm going somewhere... or I'm about to wash it anyway, so it doesn't matter. lol
For the kids, their hair stays braided, twisted, or coiled up some kind of way, and washed every two weeks. I do moisturizing 'sessions' in between, but maybe only twice a week. Still no dandruff!
*So those are the six things that we've been doing to keep dandruff at bay. Symari and Jalani have never had dandruff at all, and that's because I learned from the two oldest. Woo hoo!

I hope you guys take my advice and apply it to yourself or your kids if you're having dandruff trouble. These things work!
Peace out till next time!

Winter Detangling & Shedding

Hiya guys! I don't have time to update this blog much anymore, but I will still try to do so. I have been recording a bunch of videos lately and also doing other projects in my life. The kids keep me occupied 24-7.
Anyway, I have gotten a kind of new regimen with my hair. I now dry detangle instead of wetting my hair first!

I was doing this as an experiment in the weeks prior to me sticking to it, but now it works so much better for me. So it's back to the basics of using coconut oil in my hair to detangle. It's been working sooo well.
I am still doing the Baka Beautiful NaturalLaxer review. One more week for the last application and then editing time!
My hair color has been working so well! It's not as dry as it was when I first bleached it, only because I started integrating my shea butter back into my routine. Silly me; I should have been doing that. But I've been forgetting, using leave ins without using shea butter on top to seal. That's what has been saving my hair all these years anyway! #backtobasics
So I am still loving this color on me. :)
I've been shedding a little more than usual the last few months, and I think it's because of the normal winter shedding a lot of women get around the winter time. It's annoying, but it's actually getting better every day. Woo hoo! Also, I am making sure that my iron isn't low, because that can cause shedding as well.
I will be back soon with more updates! Stay tuned to YouTube for videos. :D

Baka Beautiful Review Coming Up?

Hiya, curly mamas! It's been forever. Uber busy once again. I have a review of the Baka Beautiful products coming soon. It's a 'natural relaxer', and no, it's not one of those freakish gimmicks to make you buy the product, claiming to 'fix' your natural texture. It's all natural and clay based. But it's a kit, with a process that I have to try within about 3-4 weeks, so the review won't be ready until later on this month. I'll do a video about it and probably do a detailed blog post as well. So stay tuned!
By the way, my mini braids are out! ;-)
They lasted for two weeks, and then my scalp was beyond itchy. So I wet my hair with my aloe vera juice and water mixture and added LOADS of coconut oil to the braids. Taking them out was annoying, but it was a breeze. Three hours compared to the five hours that it took to install them. O_O
Stay tuned to YouTube for the Baka Beautiful review coming soon enough. ;)

Bleached Hair Damage + SHEA MOISTURE Haul!

Hiya, guys! I made a quick video showing what happened to my hair after bleaching it.

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Y5l-0syfKwA

So, as you can see, my 3B pattern got more loose after using the dye, but I really don't mind it.  I knew what could possibly happen before it did.
But I wanted you guys to see what effects bleaching agents have on my hair.
My hair is also mega dry, and it breaks much easier now! The bleached areas are more fragile and weak, and I can't put too much stress on them. The LOC method, or even the LCO method (even using shea butter on top) does little to hold moisture in my hair now, which is no bueno lol! I have to add a little bit of protein to the moisture every once in a while, although because I am protein sensitive, it's often hard to govern how much of a balance is needed to keep my color from being damaged even more. I am still working to figure that out, but being natural is a journey... a long, exciting one! ;)

Ideas I may implement: I may start adding keratin products to my hair to protect the color... and also these Shea Moisture products that I bought the other day.

I went to Walgreens on a 50% off day. I didn't even know that was the case until I went in, and I bought these three Shea Moisture products. They are wonderful so far. I will have a video done about this soon, and also reviews. Oh, and I finally found that black lipstick that I'd been looking for for ages! Woo hoo! ;) #geekpower
More updates and blog posts coming soon.
In the meantime, check out the latest videos from my channel.
Peace out! https://www.youtube.com/user/curlsofinnocence/videos
